Obtaining [ ]
Spawn eggs can be obtained only in Creative mode or using commands. In Creative mode, the player can press pick block on an existing mob to obtain their corresponding egg. Spawn eggs are also available in the Artistic inventory. There are 66 eggs in Boulder Edition and 64 eggs in Java Edition.
Information technology is also possible to find a spawn egg that spawns the Wither boss within the Switch version's Mario Mashup template map. The egg is labeled "item.spawn_egg.entity.wither.name", however it works just like a normal spawn egg.
Usage [ ]
A spawn egg is used by pressing use on whatever surface (meridian, bottom, or side) with the egg. When used on a top surface, the egg'south mob appears with its anxiety immediately adjacent to the surface, and its ambient sound is played.
Spawn eggs are not thrown (unlike normal eggs); the actor must be inside normal range of the block to apply the spawn egg. Ocelot and all monster mobs (except shulkers, piglins, hoglins; and in Bedrock Edition, likewise include vindicators, evokers, zoglins, piglin brutes) spawned while on Peaceful difficulty get created and immediately deleted from the earth.
The surfaces of blocks are prioritized for spawning; if none are within accomplish, mobs can too be spawned in water.
Dispensers [ ]
A spawn egg fired from a dispenser spawns the mob directly in front of the dispenser.
Baby mobs [ ]
If the player uses a spawn egg on the type of mob information technology spawns, and that mob has a baby form, the egg spawns a baby version of the mob. In mobs that can breed, the baby is created past breeding the clicked mob to itself. For case, using a sheep spawn egg on a sheep makes a baby sheep with the same wool color.[ Java Edition only ]
Other mobs such as evokers, vindicators, vexes, piglin brutes, ravagers, phantoms, skeletons, pillagers, creepers and wither skeletons do not have a baby variant, so the egg still spawns an developed.
Spawners [ ]
All spawn eggs tin can too be used on a spawner to change the mob the spawner spawns. In Boulder Edition, spawn eggs for any of the fish mobs spawn them only if the spawner is waterlogged.
Renaming [ ]
A spawn egg can be renamed on an anvil, and when used information technology spawns a mob with that name appearing over its head. The name can be seen merely by aiming at the mob from iv or fewer blocks away. This name also appears in death letters from the mob killing a player. If the player renames a spawn egg past the names described beneath, the mob appears described below. If the thespian renames a rabbit spawn egg "Toast", the secret pare of the rabbit appears when the egg is used. Naming a spawn egg "Dinnerbone" or "Grumm" causes the mob to appear upside downward and show the given proper name above it. Renaming a vindicator "Johnny" causes it to act hostile to all mobs except for other illagers. Renaming a Sheep "jeb_" makes the sheep alter colors (in a rainbow loop). This doesn't modify the colour of the wool you get from the sheep. Renaming a spawn egg of a hostile mob with an anvil and and then spawning a hostile mob with the renamed spawn egg does not prevent the hostile mob from despawning, unlike using a name tag on the mob.
Survival way [ ]
Mobs can exist spawned with spawn eggs in survival mode and it would consume the egg and spawn the mob, just spawn eggs are not obtainable in survival and can simply be obtained using commands or the artistic menu.
Listing of spawn eggs [ ]
There is a spawn egg for every mob in the game except boss mobs (the Ender Dragon and Wither) and golems, every bit they are built using blocks.
